Summa, summa, summatime!!

Well technically now that I am a full-time Trini we don't have no damn summatime, although you would never know from the proliferation of ads for 'summa' parties and other such shenanigans. No summer in these here tropics. Just Hot and Hotter. Or Dry and Rainy. This heat burns hotter than the fires of hell and the humidity is out of this world lol. BUT, I did get a chance to run away to my graduation and other festivities in the USA so here are some of my 'summatime' styles.

The Missing Chronicles of August 2011 - February 2012 - I'm a WrapStar

As you may have figured out by now, I lurvvvvvve to wrap my head. Turbans, headscarves, headbands, I love them all. Last year a fellow naturalista, S, introduced me to a wonderful group on facebook for folks to share their love of headwraps. The group is called Headwraps and Wrapstars. You can view the awesomeness here. I dedicate this post to the lovely members of that group and the wonderful Sister S!

Used a black scarf to wrap my head then used a pink and white polka dot one for a highlight.

Had my hair in a high ponytail and wrapped a headband using my black satin scarf to keep my edges slick on a windswept day

National Headwrap Day

The lovely Ms S invited me to participate in this wonderful event. By now you all know I LURVEEEEE my Headwraps. It was great to share that love with others for one day. For this one I used this beautiful delicate scarf I found at H&M. I folded into a large square and then folded the square into a triangle. I put the straight edge around the back of my head with the peak of the triangle towards my forehead. I then grabbed the two edges and made a knot over the peak. I pulled the peak forward to smooth the scarf on my head then folded the peak over the knot and tucked under/behind it. I then fashioned the remaining cloth of the two edges into a bow by strategically tucking into/under the knot. As always, I'm rocking my protective satin scarf under this creation.

Another Edition in the Head Wrap Chronicles

Today I decided to keep my hair wrapped so I decided to rock a turban style head wrap. Seems like a perfect fit for a gorgeous spring day. I used a large multipurpose scarf/ piece of cloth I have that I sometimes rock as DIY pieces of clothing or as an accessory to head wraps I do with white cotton. Today's special - the Head wrap

No accidents were caused by taking this pic while driving. lol.

So we are experiencing an epic snow storm right now, should be getting between 12-18 inches by the time it's done tomorrow afternoon. Mind you it started last night and literally hasn't stopped since. Makes for great driving I tell you. 

Anyhooo, today I decided to rock a head wrap, and here's how it turned out.

To do this I first baggyed my ends and used my satin scarf to wrap my hair. I then used my white cotton scarf over that. I formed it into an elongated rectangle, smoothed it over the satin scarf and tied it in the back of my head like you would tie a shoe lace in a double knot and tucked the ends. I then used another green fancy scarf, much less material and also a lighter material than the white cloth, and tied a knot under the knot formed with the white scarf and then wrapped it over the knot, forming a bow to a side. 

This description sounds tedious but hopefully you get the jist of it. If I ever get the itch to make videos I'll be sure to make one for this and other head wraps I do. I rock headwraps (and/or turbans as we are calling them these days lmao) all year long whenever I'm in the mood. Very convenient, always a conversation starter and accentuates your facial features like no other.
